Haruka Papashi
Haruka Papashi is a Japanese artist whose life and artistic history remain largely undocumented. Her dates of birth and death are unknown, leaving much of her personal story a mystery.Katya Leonovich discovered Papashi’s work through her aunt, who lived near the Japanese town of Onomichi.
Drawn to the work and the circumstances surrounding its discovery, Leonovich brought Papashi’s art to New York. In 2025, her work was presented at Leonovich Gallery as part of the exhibition Hiragana Split. While much about Papashi’s life remains unknown, her work offers its own presence and a connection to an artistic history that has yet to be fully uncovered.
