ETHAN BOISVERT

Ethan Boisvert is a New York-based artist whose practice moves between painting, photography, and abstraction. He received his BFA in Sculpture from the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford. His work brings together process and narrative to explore the absurdity and contradictions of everyday life. Boisvert often begins with spontaneous sketches and intuitive gestures. Much like a musician developing a composition from a simple rhythm, he builds his paintings through layers of color, pattern, repetition, and movement. Broad passages of paint are combined with drips, stencils, and impressions made with handmade printmaking tools.

These layers create a visual history in each work, as earlier marks remain beneath new ones. His narratives are drawn from ordinary and sometimes unexpected moments. Personal encounters, conversations, street incidents, books, and events unfolding in the world can all become points of departure. Rather than illustrating these stories directly, Boisvert allows their tension and emotion to enter the work through abstraction. Conflict, humor, jealousy, love, disorder, and harmony become part of the painting’s energy without revealing a fixed narrative. Boisvert has presented solo exhibitions in New York and Hartford and has participated in numerous group exhibitions. His work has been shown at Andrew Edlin Gallery, the Wadsworth Atheneum, Heather Gaudio Fine Art, the New Britain Museum of American Art, and other venues throughout the United States. He lives and works in Ridgewood, Queens.
